    My country list is wonky.

I only want to show certain countries in the drop down list, to keep it neat and tidy. However, whatever countries I select in Settings –> Store –> General, are not the only ones that show up at checkout.

My country list also *starts* with “M” countries, instead of starting with “A” countries.

It’s confusing my customers no end to have hundreds of countries in the list and it’s hard for some to find USA (home country).

  • Hi,

I’ve seen this on another site recently, and it got narrowed down to a javascript issue (Although not completely nailed down yet I don’t believe).

Can you try disabling javascript in your browser and loading your checkout, then confirm:
    1. Are the correct countries shown?
    2. Are they in the correct order?

Can you also confirm what theme you’re running?

One of the sites I manage is having the identical problem. (It’s actually the site that Lee was talking about above.)

The country list starts with Mauritania for the shipping dropdown (both for selecting a country for shipping, and for the shipping address) but is correctly alphabetized for the billing address. And yes, it’s difficult for customers to find “USA” in the listing.

In order to troubleshoot, I’ve disabled all plugins except the WP e-Commerce related ones, and that doesn’t seem to change anything. I’ve also tried switching to two other themes, and that doesn’t seem to change anything either.

If I disable javascript in the browser, the list comes up alphabetized as it should, but I can’t figure out where the problem javascript is coming from if it isn’t a non-WP e-Commerce plugin, and it isn’t coming from the theme.

@orphic1: It is considered impolite to interrupt another poster’s ongoing thread unless you are posting a solution or suggestion. As per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic.

    Hi @esmi,

While I’m all for trying to keep topics clear, I don’t really think Orphic1 was “interrupting”. He has the exact same issue and is offering some more information that may be relevant, and may help pinpoint the issue. That seems helpful – no?

If Orphic1 is having the EXACT same issue, I don’t see it as interrupting. It seems to be a fairly unique problem, why not kill two birds with one stone?

Yup, disabling Java did it. The countries I want and in the correct order are showing.

The theme I am currently using is Lookshop.

These forums have guidelines. Please read them. As you will see, one of these guidelines – entitled Where to Post – specifically states:

Unless you are using the same version of WordPress on the same physical server hosted by the same hosts with the same plugins, theme & configurations as the original poster, do not post in someone else’s thread. Start your own topic.

    Please abide by this.

    Esmi,

My apologies. I had been working with Lee on the problem I was having, he invited me to share the information in this post, as what I was seeing was very similar, and might contribute to solving the problem for the poster, even if not for both of us.

Do you have any suggestions on how we might be able to solve it?

Thanks nathancbriggs for sharing that info!

I was not blessed with the knowledge or ability to fix this sort of issue, so if someone comes up with a solution, please please clue me in 🙂

I have fixed the issue on the site I was having the problem with by setting the “Target Market” settings in the categories to “None”. I don’t know if that will work for you, or if you have precisely the same issue. But I figured it was at least worth a shot.

    Dude.

Marry me. I think I love you.

I set every single category to “none,” and voila, it works perfectly. Only the countries I want are showing up. A thousand thank yous.

Awesome. I’m glad it fixed the problem for you, too. 🙂

As for the marriage thing…I’ll have to go ask my wife.
