• When you log into the dashboard my staff have found that the remember me function does not work. You can tick off the box and log-in, but after you log out,but the next time you chose to log in your username and password information is not their aswell as the check off box for Remember me is not selected. Any help on this would be great, thanks!

  • what bowser you are using?

I am having a related problem with the login. Under the old WordPress we used on my site I would simply go to the website and WordPress remembered my username and password, allowing me to go straight to work. Now, after switching to 26.1, when I enter WordPress my user name shows up but I must enter my password each time. But it gets better! (Or worse, if you like.) After I have entered my item (I use Mac OS X 10.5.4, browser is Safari 3.1.2), i like to go to the display page and see how the new item looks. When I return to do more work, I also have to login again. Any help on this one also greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem since 2.6.1 . It will not remember I am logged in. Even if I just go to another page and come back, I have to enter password again. Even if I open a new tab or window to the dashboard when I am already logged in to the dashboard, it will ask me for my password again. I never log out. Using Mac OS X 10.4.11, was Firefox 2.something, now Firefox 3.01 . Tried deleting all cookies to start fresh, no change. Any suggestions! Before upgrading I was able to just stay logged in for many days at a time.

Whenever I have a problem with WordPress I search the forums and find lots of other people having the same problem. The sad part is that usually most of the posts are weeks or months old and there is rarely if ever a solution available.

I’m in the same boat. In my case, “Remember Me” worked until I moved my front page from a subfolder of my domain to the root of my domain. When I did that, suddenly “remember me” didn’t work anymore. Happens in Firefox, IE, and Safari – all three. So it’s not an issue with my machine or browser, in my opinion.

I thought perhaps I needed a .htaccess file or something, so I put a blank one of those into the directory and gave it 755 permissions, but no luck.

I agree with the other user there seem to be way more questions than answers on these forums. It seems like very few proficient people hang out here compared to some other product forums I’ve seen. But we’ll take whatever info we can get. I’ll keep searching in case the answer is hidden in some other thread.

I have the same problem. I’m using firefox. Anyone figure this out?

Would love to see an answer to this. I have the same problem. It does remember me right from the page as I can click on edit under a post without a problem. But if I click on Site Admin I have to login in all over.

I just fixed it myself. I just added a / at the end of the path for the wp-admin link. It was /wp-admin and making it /wp-admin/ fixed the problem. No idea why, but it did.

I just tried the trailing / and it didn’t work. I didn’t have this problem until last week when we went from 2.1 to 2.7. I’m using Firefox 3.0.5

Here are a few suggestions that may help:

    • wp-config.php needs updating with both 2.6 and 2.7 because new cookie keys have been added. Note: Back up your wp-config.php first. Transfer your info (not the whole code) from your old wp-config.php file into the new one and generate and add the keys. See:

      http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php

    • Delete cookies, empty browser cache, and quit and restart the browser. Sometimes this can clear odd login issues.
    • Try a different browser or check if a browser update is available.
    • If you are using Safari, open the preferences and make sure that Autofill user names and passwords is selected.
    • Temporarily disable all plugins and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then a plugin is at fault.

FYI for Safari users, you should go into autofill and DELETE any old settings you have for that server. Then try and re-add it.

I’m having this problem. Browser is Firefox 3.0.6.

I’m just a user, not an administrator. Anything I can do to have it remember my password?

I just spent the last few hours wrestling with this, and then tried one last thing. Instead of trying to log in at domainname.com/wp-admin, I tried http://www.domainname.com/wp-admin.

Voila! My password worked and Remember Me seems to work as well. I just wish I’d thought of it about three hours ago.
