I moved a page from one sub-menu to another and now, although it is functional, it displays the original URL (which, AFAICT, doesn’t exist any more). How can I fix the URL?

The page is called “Distance therapy” and it is correctly positioned in Appearance>Menus as a sub-sub item, i.e.:

    Healing
    >Reiki
    >>Distance Therapy

The menu renders correctly in the browser but this page loads as http://www.beautyandsoul.net/buy/distance-therapy/ — which is where it began its life before I moved it.

It seems to be picking this URL up from the “Original” field in Appearance>Menus (which may or may not be useful provenance to know under some circumstances). But I would rather kill it if it means the repositioned page will display the correct URL. Problem is there isn’t any editable text in the “Original” field — and when I try to edit the Permalink on the page itself, only the last part of the URL is editable.

How should I do it? TIA.

Hi ElectricFeet. I’ve been staring at the two Appearance>Menus options “Remove” and “Cancel”, wondering if I dare touch either of them without grave consequences. I’ve even been scouring Google trying to find an explanation of the “Cancel” command – and I can’t find one! Does it simply restore the most recently saved menu item settings if you change your mind in mid-edit? If so, I might respectfully suggest to our lords and masters that “Undo” might have been a better choice…

Meanwhile, “Remove” removes only the menu item – not the page, right?

I’m like a rabbit caught in the headlights here. Thanks for your help.

(I still need to know why this thing is happening, even if I can fix it by deleting and starting over. How can I sleep not knowing?)

I tried removing the page and added it back again from the Pages panel under Appearance>Menus – but it came in with the same darned breadcrumb, i.e. buy/distance-therapy !

In that Pages panel, when I click on View All, it shows Distance Therapy as a sub-item of the Buy menu — which is where I moved it from many weeks ago. Any idea why it is still showing up there? That’s a weird view anyway – it shows hierarchical menus but none of the sub-items is in the right order.

Even when I promote the Distance Therapy page to the top level, it still displays its buy/distance-therapy URL.

Looks like it has somehow become corrupt imho so I guess I’ll delete the page and create a new one.

And then when I go to the page HTML and prepare to copy it before nuking the page, I realise that it has “Buy” set as its parent menu in the Page Attributes panel!

Mea culpa. Apologies for wasting your time.

[PS. Thanks a bunch for the 404s – hopefully now all fixed]
