    Newbie here…

So, I have my WordPress site up and running (… pretty much..) and now I am really focusing on “adding content”.

One thing I want to do is that at various parts of my post, there is some “common text” that I may want to pull into it.

For example, at the bottom of most posts, I want to put in some text and code for my subscription sign-up form, some code to display a piece of my amazon store, and then a standard closing comment.

What I did is that I put this stuff into a few different posts that I keep in “draft” mode called “footer 1” and “footer 2” and “header 1” for example. But, the problem I have is that when I am drafting my new post, what I really want to do is say, hey, right here, insert all the stuff from “footer 1”.. or “footer 2″…

Right now, I have to save my post, go find “footer 1”, open it up, copy the text into my clipboard, go back to the post I was drafting, find the spot I was at, and then paste in the text and code.

I KNOW there is a way to do this.. I just don’t know how yet.. so any help would be greatly appreciated. I am sure there is some simple wordpress feature or some addin that can do this, but I just don’t know how to yet.

    Thanks!

  • Edit your theme file for post and add these standard texts there.

    Ravi,
Thanks, but if I do that, it means these standard texts will now appear in every post that I create.

instead, what I wanted to try to do was to have 2 or 3 different options that I could choose to insert at various points in my posting.

    For example, I would create a “header 1”, “header 2” and a “footer 1” and “footer 2”.

Depending upon the type of post, I may decide I want to insert “header 1” in it at the top and “footer 2” in it at the bottom.

Then, in another post, I may want to insert “header 2” in the top and also “footer 2” in the bottom.

So, I have the option to just choose what ones I want to insert where.

    Thanks.

FYI – The “Quicktag” plugin does exactly what i want.
Wasn’t easy to figure out how it works, but once I did, was able to throw all the code i want in a “quicktag” and then I just select the quicktags I want when editing my post and it inserts everything in.. Viola! Simple. Nice is that I made several quicktags: “Footer1”, “Footer2”, “Footer 3”, so depending upon the type of post, I just select the one I want and I am good. I even figured out that I can put some “Shortcodes” into my quicktags to make things even simpler!
