I have a problem with my current hosting using to much CPU usage, but the stupid thing is all i have done is host and test the wordpress myself, it's not been released to the public to view and i was always getting Internal Server Error 500.

Now im a novice when it comes to hosting, but i now know that lots of bandwidth and space doesn't mean jack sh*t.

I have been doing some research and i've heard both good and bad reviews for both companies. The website i am going to release is going to be powered blog by wordpress and also a vbulletin forum. I expect to have couple hundred users loggin on to use both features so i need some help in choosing a plan with either company and which would suit each best.

I'm also not made of money so $50 month max or around that price bracket is my limit. Any recommendations would be appriciated.

Again i can't stress i have researched about both companies and with both systems installed but alot of the reports are couple years old so i would like to know in regards to 2008 and last couple of months performance and stablibilty.

    Thank You

I have been using midphase (anhosting brand) and it is quite good for the money.

I was looking at MT for a move, not that I am unhappy with MP. The reason I wanted to move is so that all my domains are not sub-domains of my main site. It's not a big deal for most people, however when it comes to tracking and stats; it makes a huge difference. Plus MT has some features you will never get from MP (like shell access). Installation of what I want, not what is allowed; within reason of course.

I too heard some bad things about MT, and decided to stick w/MP for one more year. For $90/yr it's a good deal. However, I have to do things in ways that would be easier with a shell or scp etc...

Oh yeah, if you use webdav MP no longer supports it. Not a big deal to me, as I don't use it.

MP's customer service is very good. Sometimes they don't get what I am saying, but they do get it eventually. It's a good value for the price.

I second that -- for a paid, shared host -- they are on the ball.

I believe that 'a small orange' also forces your extra domains under the master domain. That is why I didn't move there.

If you are talking about file locations, addon domains are done the same way on nearly every host that offers cpanel -- primarily because cpanel does the work.

Theres a directory, its called public_html, you add the domain, and the directory is created within the parent public_html directory. Thats kinda normal.

Being that public_html is the only web accesible directory within a users home directory, theres not a lot of choice about that. And honestly, if THATS what you are talking about, thats a very unusual factor to take into account when looking at hosting companies.

I spose the other option would be to set up a completely separate account.. but then I think "why".

And as far as stats.. addon domains are not lumped into your parent domain. Neither are subdomains. Thats an awstats thing.

I may be misunderstanding the sub-domain issue here, so I'm going to post here.

I have a (MT) account. I currently have one account that was just switched to their GridServer, they were on the SharedServer prior to that, but the (MT) SS does not run WP.

I have installed WP 2.7.1 on my primary domain account, with another separate domain name, but it will not load to the ADMIN set up under that domains name. It will only load as a sub-domain under my primary domains account. This is not the case with my other site's domain though.

    Primary: department99.com
    Secondary ( stand alone ): advertisignfreelance.com
    WP secondary: droolinc.com
    WP loads only as: department99.com/droolinc

I have the correct databases and MYSQL set up for both, but only the sub-domain to my Primary will load the ADMIN start up page of WP.

Could someone tell me if there is a way to get my droolinc.com WP site to run without it being a sub-domain? (MT) says I need to buy a separate account for WP to have it stand alone as it's own domain - doesn't make sense to me as my advertisingfreelance.com site works on it's on url there.

    Thanks
