I’ve update to 3.0, but when I create a new instance of the widget I get the old version with the same message that existing 2.x instances have at the top, that this is an old version…

This happens both on a site that has several functioning instances, as well as on a site that had the 2.x version installed, but no instances created yet…

On a site that did not have the previous Custom Menu Wizard installed the 3.0 version does create the newer instances…

    Kind regards.

First off, I apologise for the delayed response. (I suspect something a bit weird going on with the notification emails : yours only arrived in my inbox 8 hours ago; whereas a comment from esmi turned up this evening bang on time, yet the original comment it was in response to still hasn’t. Weird!)

Anyway, I’ve tried very hard to reproduce this, but I can’t. I’ve removed, reinstalled, removed, installed old version, upgraded, removed, reinstalled old version, re-upgraded, etc, etc – all the while creating, removing, deactivating, reactivating widgets – and still no problem. Most frustrating!

It occurs to me to ask : What version(s) of WP are you working with (3.9.1 maybe?), and is it the multi-site or standard version? And do you have any caching plugins of any sort installed?

I am finding what may be related weirdness. My posts often don’t seem to post right away, but are somehow delayed. It occurred to me after posting to add some more info but when they’re delayed I am unable to edit them in the half hour that’s allowed.

Sorry for your frustration and very much appreciate hearing from you, as I want to keep using your plugin. As it is all the old instances continue to work, but it would be nice to recreate new instances and stay fresh with things.

To answer in order, I am using WP 3.9.1, and standard, not multisite. I have Wordfence installed with its Falcon caching activated, and am also using Cloudflare. It didn’t occur to me to clear caches in either, as usually new or changed widgets show up right away without doing that.

If you think that might have a bearing I can try clearing both. Here’s hoping this posts right away.

    Kind regards.

I have cleared both caches but the issue remains.

I’ll also offer hoping it is helpful that there are two active plugins that interact with widgets. The Widget Title Links Plugin, and the Dynamic Widgets plugin. The latter is active on all Custom Menu Wizard instances plus some others. Each CMW instance is a menu set up for a particular page or set of pages, with all of them set up at at the most basic level. There are nine CMW instances and nine custom menus they relate to. There are Widget Title Links set for most CMW instances as well.

If a temp admin login would be helpful let me know, and a way to send it to you.

    Kind regards.

Wow, that did it! Yep, I’m afraid CMW does not play well with the Widget Title Links plugin.

Quick work-around for you is to (temporarily) deactivate Widget Title Links, create your new instances of CMW, then reactivate Widget Title Links (you won’t lose Widget Title Links’ settings). Once the CMW widgets are created there’s no problem, but they have to be created with Widget Title Links deactivated!

I’ll dig into it a bit further to see if I can find out exactly what is happening and if I do anything about it, but I wanted to let you know what I’d found so far…

…released v3.0.1 of CMW that should fix your problem (ie. deactivation of the Widget Title Links plugin should no longer be required in order to create new instances of CMW).

    Hi Wizzud,

Yea! Thanks and thanks… I just woke this morning and found your messages. And it is fixed for sure… 🙂
