• I’ve been searching the net for months now & have still not found any posts that have directly addressed this problem. I really hope someone can help me work this out.

    Problem:
We update our site content 2 or so times a week and every 3 or so weeks (different timing each time) we will loose all of our recent updates. They completely disappear. It’s like it reverts back to an old version of the site… but it’s a different version each time. There is still content but all the new stuff is gone and stuff that has been removed is back.

When I update to the newest version of WP on my laptop it shows the newest version for me but on someone else’s Mac it show and out of date version (even after they empty their cache) same problem with plugins & textual / graphic content. Im not talking about a difference in formatting with different browsers, I mean full different content. I’ve checked different Laptops on the same wifi network, 3g mobiles, etc and it’s all just showing different stuff.

A friend suggested that it might be the serve crashing and it reverting to an old back up but my provider says he’s been monitoring it and it hasn’t crashed. Also that wouldn’t explain why I can see things but others can’t would it?

    Background to the site:
    Site url: http://www.faithcc.com.au

I’m running a WP multisite with 5 active sites on it.

I built the site on a different server & ip address and then we’ve moved servers twice since then using a DATABASE SEARCH AND REPLACE SCRIPT IN PHP
the site seems to have migrated fine & i’ve done this with a bunch of other site (not multi sites) and they have all worked fine too.

I’ve tried deactivating plugins, but no luck.

I’m stumped at what is causing this problem. PLEASE HELP!

  • I think your friend is correct. WordPress itself simply cannot revert to an older version of the database.

I had the same issue last night. I lost 3 1/2 months of posts and images. Did you ever figure out why it was happening? It reverted back to an old WP, even changed my WP login credentials.

This occurred on a site I manage. I don’t even have access to the server so I know it’s not some random user error on my part messing with the DB.

Why does esmi say that WordPress cannot revert to an older version? Does WP write to the DB? Yes it does, in fact on most servers WP is the ONLY THING writing to the DB. If there’s an error in the DB and there was no manual switching servers, moving, rewriting, or replacing, the error almost certainly came from WP.

I did not do anything manually to the database. Unless the server actually did revert to an older DB backup from 6 months ago without notifying me (something I’ve never heard of before from any webhost, anywhere, ever) the error was introduced from WordPress or a result of updates that I’ve kept up on.

I have continued to update a Worpress install because if I don’t it will be easily hacked and used to sell viagra or something. However, the downside is I lose all new content at random intervals?

At this point, as a professional web designer, I see no redeeming quality that would recommend WordPress to anyone for anything.
