    Hi

I’m not able to define which sidebar that should be showed when entering a category on my website http://andershelbo.com.

If i fx entering the category “WordPress” I’m not able to set the widget for the sidebar to the left. I have added a new sidebar that should be used on this category and shows a customized menu with child-categories. But when i edit categories, I dont have the oppotunity to select a sidebar? Is this supose to be this way or is it just me?

  • Hi @casio151,

Greetings and thanks for posting on the forums.

Just to make sure have you selected Replaceable Sidebars for substitution from the following path as displayed in this screenshot?

But when i edit categories, I dont have the oppotunity to select a sidebar? Is this supose to be this way or is it just me?

No the plugin doesn’t display sidebar selection in the edit categories screen instead it displays options to select sidebar for specific category from the following path s displayed in this screenshot.

    Kind Regards,

Okay. So what I need to do is the following

    1. Make a Custom Sidebar for each category.
    2. Go to the Custom Sidebar plugin
    3. Choose “by category” and add the sidebars to the different categories

    Right? 😀

    Hi @casio151,

Thank you for your reply and sorry for any confusion.

    1. Make a Custom Sidebar for each category.

If you want to display different sidebar and widgets on each category then create separate Custom Sidebars for each category or else you can create one custom sidebar and used it on all category archives pages.

    2. Go to the Custom Sidebar plugin

Yes you have to go to the Custom Sidebar plugin in Default sidebars tab.

    3. Choose “by category” and add the sidebars to the different categories

If you choose “by category” then the custom sidebar will be displayed on every single post that matches the chosen category.

If you choose “Category archives” then the selected custom sidebar will be displayed on the chosen category archive page.

In your case you want to display custom sidebar on “WordPress” category archive page so you should choose “Category archives” instead of “by category”.

Please advise if you have more questions.

    Best Regards,
