• A friend who tried to add their comment to my blog reports that they get this error:

    Not Acceptable!

An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security.

I have no clue what could be causing this. Plenty of other people have left comments on my blog with no problem.

Mod_Security is an extension on your webserver that prevents “dangerous” things from happening. It’s intended to stop hack attempts and other bad stuff from making it to the server.

Unfortunately, mod_security relies on configuration, and some hosting environments have what I would consider “overzealous” configurations. For example, I’ve seen cases where using anything that contains the letters “eval”, will prevent the comment from going through.

You need to ask your host why mod_security is blocking your friend from commenting, and you may need to get a copy of the comment from your friend to pass to them, so that they can fix the configuration to not be so overbearing.

Thanks. I have submitted a ticket to my hosting company to see what they say about it.
