• I finally upgraded to 2.6 2 days ago, after a disaterous attempt to upgrade to 2.5 last time.
    So I went from 2.1 to 2.6.

I have followed all the instructions, have no problem getting into admin, and loading the default theme. My new 2.6 compatible theme, nor any others will work.
I have done everything from reinstalling both wordpress and the theme countless times, to stripping all files from the root , checking and rechecking the database, and starting from scratch, yet I get the same result.

Admin functions and default themes are fine, new theme will not load at all, just the background, and a home page link.

I have seen this posted around the web, but never a solution.
    Hopefully someone can help.

    thanks

  • If the Admin functions and default themes are working fine, it must be your new theme which might have required custom fields and/or plugins to function.

I’ve seen problems like these posted around the web as well, and it was just a matter of adding custom fields, plugins or both which by the way were in the theme instructions or website of theme maker.

Did you move to another server? I had the exact same problem today while attempting to locate to a new hosting company myself. It turns our that there was an .htaccess file in my themes directory. This is a security feature that will prevent files from being accessed.
