I’ve noticed you update the theme regularly (which is always a great thing), but I was wondering how often do you edit the Style.css theme? I ask because I made a lot of colour changes in it and it takes a bit of time to have to go through and redo them when I update. 🙂

  • This is exactly why you should create child themes Dean. You need to update the changes in the child theme.

When there is an update to the theme, you will only update the parent theme and it’ll not reset the styles as the styles are stored in the child theme.

Never ever edit the style.css of your theme.

Alternatively, you can use Jetpack and custom CSS to avoid this as well. But, if you’re changing more than the CSS, definitely use a child theme.

Tim and Jay is absolutely right about Jetpack Custom CSS and Child Theme.

Additionally i would like to point out that all changes done via Theme Options (including Custom CSS field) will remain in place in case you update this theme.

Almost each update has some CSS changes, usually nothing really major but still there are changes.
