   Could you please explain to a dummy if and how I can add meta title, meta description and meta keywords to the index.php please?

   Actually, wouldn't you add them to header.php, as that template gets called up first? At least in 1.5 beta it is called up first.

   Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but I *think* that meta tags do not hold the "value" that they once did, mostly due to abuses. That's not to say that they aren't worth having anyway, but from what I understand, the URLs that are generated by WordPress account for more SE friendliness than meta tags.

   timothyb, only if you're using 1.5, and/or the theme you use has a header.php.

   NM, for the most part, though some search engines and other indexing tools still make use of them.
