Twenty Fourteen update necessary when not being used?

    I am using the Responsive Theme. WordPress tells me that Twenty Fourteen AND Twenty Thirteen also need to be updated. Is it necessary to update these themes when they aren’t being used?

    Are there any risks to my site in not updating them?
