   Im a fan of this new plugin - snazzy archives.

   The only gripe I have with it, is that, as I'm using a 3 column layout, with only 500px for my contents, the archives page(http://rayvolvez.com/write/?page_id=306) get a ugly horizontal scrollbar.

   Is there a way I could work-around this?

   Some site designs certainly require a "fixed width display", so try using visual effect 1 ("carousel"). It limits the width and displays paging arrows that prevent the horizontal scrollbar from showing.
