   When trying to activate Askimet I place my API key in box and click enter and get,

   "The key you entered could not be verified because a connection to akismet.com could not be established. Please check your server configuration."

   I looked in the forums for problems that others may have had and one person said they changed the ports to 744 form 644 and another said wait a few days and try again.

   Anyone got any ideas on what to do?

   Check your host allows Akismet to use port 80.
   Also check that they allow Akismet to connect to rest.akismet.com
