I am working directly on a server that I do not trust. The database is on that localhost as well. I am the only administrator, however many people have access to the server, ftp and database. The only way I know I can protect my site and wordpress dbtables from being taken is to move the wp-config.php to another location where it can not be read by the same people who have access to the server.

Can I move the wp-config file to another server?

The config file only stores the information pointing to the database. It doesn’t store all your posts and such. Anybody with access to that server will have access to the database too.

Backup the database, the files, everything. Just backing up the config file only backs up whatever is in that config file.

Also, note that WordPress needs to read the contents of that config file to connect to the database. Without it, you have no website.

I will change the way I work with wordpress files. I will limit access priveledges to ftp and database.
