• I recently installed the child theme for independent publisher and soon after got the white screen of death. I made no changes to any files before the problem. I think there may be a problem with the files or it the issue on my end?

I have fixed it now by renaming the folder of the child theme that I downloaded from github and restoring the default theme. I switched back to the normal independent publisher theme.

Is there a problem within the github child theme, I isolated this issue with the theme as I also renamed the plugin folder to disable them and the theme still wouldn’t work.

    Cheers

  • without knowing what plugins you where using and nothing about the theme I don’t think anyone will be able to answer your question. Also, since it was a child theme it could have been a coding error in the child theme.

I was only using backup WordPress and jetpack plugin which are both pretty popular. I used the child theme linked on the indipenant publisher website so I wasn’t expecting any problems.

Nothing out of the ordinary I think. Wondering if there is simply an issue in the official child theme.

    Tim,

That sounds like an issue with the Child Theme not finding the Parent Theme. Can you confirm that the Parent Theme directory is called independent-publisher and NOT independent-publisher-master? The latter would indicate that you downloaded the Parent Theme from GitHub and not WordPress.org (see also the Child Theme installation notes on this here).

It doesn’t matter what the Child Theme directory is called, but it does matter what the name of the Parent Theme directory is (it MUST match whatever is defined as Template: in the Child Theme style.css file).
