    Hi there,

Even though I have updated to WordPress several times (incl. to new version 2.6), I continue having this problem. I choose the theme for my site, and within about 24 hours the theme look reverts to the Default theme. When I look at the “Design” portion of my blog in my dashboard, it still lists my chosen theme, even though it shows up differently when I go to my website.

Another weird thing about this is that I host a couple blogs through one host and only this one – http://www.missadventures.com – has this bug. I’ve seen other answers to similar questions about renaming the default theme, but that doesn’t work at all. I’ve also tried this using several different themes in case my preferred one is the problem. But the same thing happens.

Does anyone know what I can do? This is my “main” website, with my portfolio. So, I like to provide the URL to business associates.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Melanie

  • I am having a similar problem on my site, theme keeps changing back to default. Happens every several hours. Does anyone have a solution?

Me too with 2.6. This has been going on for months.

I even tried to change the name of theme to default– but that didnt work-

No one has an answer, this is an ongoing problem that has never been addressed.

Maybe delete the default theme entirely, then replace it with your theme? This hasn’t happened to me, but I just upgraded a couple of days ago. Crossing my fingers that it doesn’t…

I tried RoseCity’s solution a while back and it returned a fatal error for me. Reading through other similar posts, I know that solution has worked for others, though.

I had also read through other posts where one of the moderators had mentioned that this problem had been “tagged” for review by the wordpress tech gurus. But, unfortunately, this continues to be an ongoing issue.

Though it’s annoying, I’m glad others are having the same problem as me. Hopefully someone will drop in with a solution soon. I’m tired of seeing my pretty little site revert to the boring blue default theme!

    Hi all,

It’s been a month, and no solutions in sight. Is there someone out there who can help with this?? I’d really appreciate it!

    Thanks!

I’m having the same problem, it’s so frustrating! I’m glad to know I’m not alone but it’s not encouraging that there is no update in over 6 months as to a solution.

I too suffered from the stalking Kubrick theme, appearing randomly to make me look like a fool in front of my client. Seems this is the fix, worked for me and my three installs. Now I have one and all is fine. Thanks Dave.

I hadn’t even looked at this question for about 6 months and just today returned to it. Must be on the same wavelength as tiny… Weird.

Anyhow, I think his answer did the trick. I just went back to my site, changed the theme to the preferred, then tried calling up the old /blog/ folder of my site. Sure enough, Ctrl+F5 two seconds later and my site has reverted to the default.

I don’t feel I’m as tech savvy as tiny (aka Dave), so not sure how I can go and change the function.php file in the blog folder (can’t find it presently). I’m going to try a couple more workarounds and return to this in a few days to report.

So so grateful to Dave, though. This seems so obvious, but I couldn’t find the answer (and so many others couldn’t either!).

So I think Dave’s solution – from 2007, no less! – is going to work. I just went in and renamed the /blog/ folder to something that hopefully won’t be called up later on and change my theme. Just to be safe, I saved the old blog directory on my hard drive while I test this out over the next several days. I’m very hopeful! Hope everyone else that has posted here is able to find as easy a workaround.

Still working. Going to mark this one as resolved. Thanks, Dave!

I don’t see how this one can be marked as resolved if all these are work arounds… I’m running a fresh site with one WP installation and it’s the only thing using the database and I’m having this issue. I’m using pointers from David Risleys post above. Will keep you posted.
