How to generate Ref No.

Hi there,

I’m looking for a way to generate a customer reference number using the first three letters of one user submitted field (eg. customer’s sir name) and the last three of another (eg. customer’s contact number) so that the overall result might look something like: RED531

Is this at all possible?
