• Hi again, loving the latest updates and thanks for implementing my last suggestion.

One thing I have noticed (unless I have missed something) is that both teams must exist before an event can be created? For leagues this is fine and as I’d expect but let’s just say for example there are a series of pre-season friendly matches / early cup matches arranged with 2 teams in different leagues (or countries if the team was touring.) Whilst it’s not a massive issue to create a team for just for that fixture I can’t help thinking it would be easier to have a free text box for inputting the visiting team name. Another example where this would help is for junior clubs with many teams – I did one a while ago where they only wanted to have their own teams to have a page on the site. They simply wanted a page for that team showing upcoming fixtures and a box to input the result once the match had been played. That way they didn’t have to maintain a full league system with all teams (they had around 50 junior teams all in different leagues so maintaining all the results would have been a full time job!) It does cut out a lot of functionality that is already present but at the moment I don’t think the plugin allows for scaling back as much as it could and therefore will alienate those with less time.

Obviously this is just a suggestion, but I imagine quite a few users would benefit from being able to choose to run with a reduced functionality and as it’s already in the code, shouldn’t be too hard to implement.

    Hi Phill,

Thanks for your detailed feedback. I totally agree with you. I think your solution would work perfectly for teams that are one-time appearances. We’ll also look into adding an option to create teams without full profiles.

The next major update (version 0.9) is due next week so we’ll try to work it in by then. I’ll keep you posted 🙂

Thanks for taking it on board, I assume other things took priority over this for the latest versions since I posted but I hope it will get in soon. Is the final release going to be chargeable by the way or can I donate to it somewhere?

    Hi again!

    Thanks for following up.

We’re looking to add this feature in an update soon, although it didn’t make it into version 0.9. SportsPress is an open source project so it will remain free, even after the official launch. We have a donate button on the main page of this plugin, and we’re also working on some premium themes and extensions that you may be interested in. The first theme and extension will be released at the end of this week 🙂
