    I have been at it for 5 days trying to import my blogger blog. It is not hosted at go-daddy. I have made a new wordpress blog and imported my blogger to there. Now i can not import word press to word press. I get an error

    Unable to create directory /home/tharmati/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2008/07. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    If i try to import form blogger i get an error There was a problem opening a secure connection to Google. This is what went wrong:

    Unable to find the socket transport "ssl" - did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP? (-1085939584

    i just can not get my old blogger to wordpress.I have my own domain. please help. Its been 5 das of rackign my brain. I have the new blogger and i have the new wordpress.. I have my own hosting that is not with godaddy

    you might have already figured it out or moved on... BUT for anyone just visiting:
    I had the same problem and followed this advice to solve it.

    #1 if you have an FTP blogger blog switch it to blogspot (do this inside of blogger -->"publishing" tab)

    2)go to wordpress.com and create a wordpress.com hosted blog.

    3) import your blogger.com blog to wordpress.com

    4)Once this is done, export the wordpress.com blog (in dashboard -->"manage" --export)

    5) Finally, in your self-hosted wordpress site import the wordpress.com blog.

    NOTE: if it gives you an error about you wp-content/uploads folder, you may get around it by changing the permissions on that folder to 777.
