    Hello,

while the functionality of the plug-in would be awesome for our site, it sadly broke the database, and keeps randomly changing each users “base name” (permanently, even after de-installing and removing FOAF).

☠ Base Name shows a different user: due to the database corruption caused by the FOAF (Friends of other Friends) plug-in, there is a mixup with names: randomly other users’ names show up in the “Base Name” field of your profile (example, opens in new tab). Just edit and save your profile to fix that. Unsure what causes this, we are hoping for a fix. Support request has been submitted to the WordPress community.

    Example (should say: “EuroAdmin”):

Any chance of getting your help to fix it?

Much rather we would like to use the plug-in again, when it is 100% compatible with WP 3.9.1 and Buddypress 2.0.1.

(We keep all plugin’s updated, and used the latest version of FOAF as well)

My plugin does not alter any data, it only handles select sql statements, your problem must be caused by another module… Database corruptions by the friends of a friends plugins are impossible.
For username and link creation I call native buddypress methods – there is not much that can go wrong and there is no effect at the displayed data in a user’s profile page

Please deactivate all other modules, deactivate custom themes etc to find out what causes your problem.

It would be nice to give some feedback afterwards to help others having the same or similar problems.

That is always the easiest way to respond, pointing the finger elsewhere (and making a negative vote on the site).

Thank you very much for your “helpful” feedback 🙁

Hmm. I cannot understand your answer. What did you expect?

This is the support forum for a special module.
The problem you described cannot be caused by this module.
I do not know the level of your php / sql skills but if you do not beleave me just scroll through the code of the plugin to realize that there are no writing database accesses that can break a site…. You can say data is only used to be read, not to be written.

Of course I could offer you to debug your site to find the failures other plugins / other modifications cause. But I alreay spend time to support the plugins I offer for free… So please understand that more support than for my plugins cannot be offered… My time is limited and there also is a full time job and a family that demand some time, too…

You should use general wordpress support forums or hire a pro to find a solution for your problem.

As I already sayed it would be nice to let us know what was wrong after the problem is solved.

Now that the plug-in has been updated to be compliant with WP 3.9.1 and the latest buddypress version, we did re-install it, and it seems to work.

Our SQL skills are not that good to qualify exactly what happened before – but the functionality of the plug-in just too good for our site not to try again 🙂

Anyway, whatever it was, we are happy that it seems to be working now, and that we can use it.

We will watch it for 2 or 3 days, and if all is still good (which we hope), we will also make a $20 donation to make up for the grief before! 🙂

“Update: there is still an issue: when you look at members profiles’ you see their picture but your own profile. So de-activated it for the time being, see if we can resolve it with the author.”

shortly after activation, it started pulling up one’s own profile with the other members picture and link. After de-activating the plug-in, it went back to normal.

Here are links to the screenshots:

member euroadmin looking at member judotommy (which he is friends with) – judotommy’s picture, but euroadmin’s profile:

member judotommy looking at member ballplaysyd (which he is NOT friends with) – ballplay’s picture, but judotommy’s profile:
    http://scaffies.nl/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Screenshot-from-2014-06-10-151948.png

and immediately after de-activation of the plug-in, with the same same problem (judotommy looking at hotharryÄs profile), it went back to normal:
that users’ profile is shown with the correct user.

    hi,

    this sounds strange..
Actually I am on vacations this and next week so I am not able to help you at the moment.
Can you give access for me at your site to debug this?
Maybe you can duplicate your site and I can test with your doublicated site in two weeks?

    Hello Florian,

    thanks for responding!

No problem, enjoy your vacation – this is not urgent for us at all; we do like the plug-in’s functionality, and it would be great to fix the issue, allowing us to use it.

For now, everything works fine with the plug-in disabled, so we can totally wait until you have time.

And we gladly pay you for your time, too – we know you are providing the plug-in as a volunteer effort.

Just let us know when you are back and have time, and we can give you access or duplicate the site, or something that works.

    Thanks and enjoy your vacation!

P.S.: we are not allowed to post e-maill addresses here, but you can send messages to the admins directly through the form:
