  • Hi Violet,

    I hope you’re doing great today! 🙂

Thanks for posting about this. To be sure we have as much detail as possible, could you please provide a screenshot of your settings at:

    yoursite.com/themes.php?page=customsidebars&p=defaults

You can provide screenshots through any free service like Google Drive, Dropbox or screencast.com. Whichever you like. 🙂

Could you get that for us so we can see those settings?

    Thanks,
    David

    Hi David,

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

    Here’s the dropbox link:

It appears the hierarchical inheritances are not working.

    I’ve sent two examples:

    1. kbasepost. I’ve sent screenshot of post editor which shows that it is in cat architecture and cat techarch. Only one sidebar is customized in the post editor. I’ve also sent you the customsidebars setup page for single post, showing the setup for those two. The main problem here is that it’s not inheriting sidebar2(Bottom). It seems to have everything else.

    2. hamstrings. I’ve sent screenshot of post editor which shows category exercises, and i’ve sent shot of category page, showing that exercises is child of technique. And I’ve sent customsidebars setup for technique. As you can see, lots of sidebars are not proliferating.

Of course it would be better to manage the sidebars in the most hierarchical way, filtering down, but with the software not working well, I can’t do that.

    Thank you!

    Hi @violetta,

I’m really sorry for the delay here. This hasn’t been an easy one to test since it involves not just multiple categories but hierarchical ones!

Just to confirm though, is it just the one sidebar (sidebar2-Bottom) that’s having the trouble?

Or more clearly, are any of the hierarchical category sidebars working correctly?

Thanks for your patience, looking forward to getting this sorted for you! 🙂

    Cheers,
    David

    Hi there

I have a similar experience to Violet, but in a less complicated? example.

Apologies, I am a new User so it could be me.

I am using the Responsive theme and have created one of your custom sidebars and it is not inheriting the parent themes widget style.

I have viewed the source of the page and under:

    <div id=”widgets” class=”grid col-300 fit”>

in the Responsive widget pages you have:
    <div id=”text-5″ class=”widget-wrapper widget_text>

but using your custom sidebar it comes out like this:
    <div class=textwidget”>
with no sign of any Responsive wrapper styling?
and it just comes out un-styled?

Any suggestions or is the Responsive theme no longer compatible with your plugin. It was at somepoint as there is a Youtube video up there demonstrating it working.

Another small issue that I am working around.

When adding/editing your widgets in the dashboard I lose functionality of the righthand scroll bar and my only workaround is to change the resolution temporarily to 50% to save the changes.

I hope this is an easy one for you to answer.

I am developing locally so you won’t be able to see it online.

    Thanks.

From futzing around with this I think I’ve discovered that if a child post has the child category and the parent category ticked, then the hierarchical sidebar inheritance works. However if one ticks only a child category and not the parent category, the hierarchal inheritance doesn’t work.

There are some instances when I don’t want to click the parent, so it would be better if this worked fully, but I can live with it for now.

    Thank you,

    Violet

    Hi

I have now found another way to do this, so please ignore my request.

    Thank you.

    Kind Regards.

Hi @wpuservalley, glad you were able to find another way but we’d love to assist if you have any concerns about that with the latest updated version!

@violetta thanks for clarifying that much. With the latest version, I’ve tested and category hierarchy works by default. So if you specify a top-level category using the , all the category archives

The category archives can be specified on a per-sidebar basis by clicking Sidebar Locations > For Archives > Category Archives.

I’d love to assist if you have any questions or concerns with the new functionality. 🙂

    Cheers,
    David

    HI there,

I just installed the update. Things appear to be working ok, except for my home page, where the settings for sidebar 2 don’t seem to be working. This sidebar is set manually in the page admin and it ought to deliver the same sidebar that is used throughout the site. (Click on pretty much anything and you’ll get a column of square logos.) This sidebar is used throughout the site and is set for all pages, as well as being set individually on this page.

I tried removing the individual page setting, but that didn’t help.

This looks very bad. My home page is broken! I hope you can address this problem soon!

Also on the home page, the widget which is supposed to display in the widget area above footer is missing. this is also something that is consistent on the whole site, and set individually on the home page. It’s working everywhere else, but not here.

    Hi @violetta,

Sorry to hear of the problem you are having.

Please tell me which theme you are using.

Are you facing the same issue using WordPress default theme like Twenty Thirteen?

Could you please share me the screenshot of your Custom Sidebars settings and also share me the page links where you are facing the issue so that i can troubleshoot it?

For screenshots, you can simply provide a link to an image through Google Drive, Dropbox, screencast.com, http://imgur.com/ or other image service. 🙂

    Best Regards,
