• Hi,

I have read all the other posts/discussions about this and I have changed my folder permissions to 777.

I still get this message when trying to upload an image.

“gravatar_MP.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/2014/04.

The interesting thing is that when I FTP to the folder, the image is actually there but it doesn’t show up in the Media Library nor can I put it in a post.

I can create posts and pages so that part of WP works and says to me that the db is working and I can write to it.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

    Thanks!

  • Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

Nope, I tried all 4 permission settings and none made a difference.

The file uploads to the folder so it can’t be a permission on the folder issue.

It throws the error but still uploads the file.
BUT, it doesn’t appear in the media library.
So that has to be database related??

Yet, I can create posts and pages so that indicates the db works.

It does sound rather like a db issue, yes, Can you view the images in their uploads folder via their urls?

That looks like something at the server level. Check that anti-hotlinking isn’t enabled in your hosting account. If it is, try disabling it.

Ok, thanks for your help – I’ll check into that.

    I’ll post-back with results.

Just tried to add a plugin and got the error that it couldn’t install because it couldn’t create the folder

    ARGH!

What was the full error message?

    Downloading install package from https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/wp-optimize.1.8.4.zip…

    Unpacking the package…

    Could not create directory.

    ************************************
I’ve asked my clients host to look into it (again) but I am not hopeful as they aren’t exactly a major player.

Try checking your site’s error logs for a more specific error message. Your hosts should be able to help you accessing your site’s error logs.

    🙁

    Already looked.
    Nothing in them

Have you asked your hosts to check if there is a folder ownership issue?

Yup, four days ago, and they said they “reset permissions” for me.

You could try asking them to look into this again. Also ask them if the server has been configured with a temp directory.

After all that hassle this is the hosts response.

I noticed that the account appears to be over it’s disk quota allocation.

    =========================
    6,382.01 MB / 6,000.00 MB
    =========================

This very well may be the reason that you are running into this error when trying to upload new files to the account. I would recommend looking into lowering your disk usage by removing superfluous files or having the disk quota increased on your account. This should alleviate the errors you are receiving when trying to upload.

    It “might” be the issue?
Umm, shouldn’t you know if your systems are set to block the customer if over quota?
