Hi guys, sorry if this question seems elementary.

I have a hosting service with Host Gator and I’m currently running a blog with wordpress on it.

I plan to have another website using wordpress, with un-related content and purpose to my first blog, but i want to host it on the same hosting plan as the one i currently have to save monthly fees.

Do i need to use a wordpress multisite installation? If not, how do i go about installing wordpress for my second website ?

    Thanks a bunch.

    Regards,
    Dexter

  • Hi,
    You have various options:
    1) a new domain

buy a new domain, in your hostgator cpanel create new addon domain and point the nameservers to your hostgator server (DNS).
That’s it. you have a new website (blog) on the same account

    2) sub domain
In your cpanel create a new subdomain and install your wordpress there (can have some SEO issues, so i prefer the first option)

I would NOT create a multisite install for this. Use either of the two options that OshikErnst describes.

Here’s a helpful article on when not to use multisite: http://halfelf.org/2011/dont-use-wordpress-multisite/

Yes, Bet is correct. Using Multisite in your situation would go against the intentions of Multisite — creating a network of related websites.
