Incorrect Number of total views on every post

Hello,

I have “total views counts” active for both Posts and Pages. Until a few months ago, the plugin worked great and the counts were accurate. Then suddenly, every post started with a random number of views, right from the start. Often about 400 and up to 2,000.

I couldn’t find any recent similar issues. Any suggestions? All other plugins are working on my site. I tried to de-activate and re-activate but no luck. I have been using the plug-in for a while and would hate to remove it and re-install as I would lose the counts.
