I’m also having this issue. The weird thing is that it was working perfectly yesterday. I created a bunch of draft posts, uploaded photos, added a few photos to the posts as thumbnails, and everything was great. This afternoon, I tried adding more photos, but the editor inserts them as full-size, even though I selected the “thumbnail” radio button. If I edit the HTML manually to point at the auto-generated thumbnail, I can get the thumbnail to show up, but this is not really a convenient solution.
Ok I solved it by following the directions in this post:

Made no difference, still have to manually edit every image entry.
It appears to be a bug in podpress. Once I deactivate podpress it works fine.

Same problem. Have tried all of the above, and it makes absolutely no difference.
To recap, the problem is that when I tell it to make a thumbnail, it does not. There is no thumbnail made. Instead it inserts the FULL SIZE image into the post, just sized down using the width= and height= tags.
Have looked everywhere, cannot find a solution. Help!

To clarify, I’m using WordPress 2.6, and I’ve tried all the fixes people have been talking about. It isn’t because the image size is too big (have done that fix and tried smaller images). No matter what I do, when I upload an image, a thumbnail is not created.

Anyone, or is WordPress just ignoring this problem? I know I’m not the only one having it, and the fixes they suggest are not fixes at all.
im having the same thing with a site im trying to setup. I upload an image, and the radio buttons are greyed out for thumbnail, med etc. Only original size is available. Absolutly doing my head in now, been looking for a solution for over a week.
Looking at using Pixelpost now, since this common issue has such little concern to some folk!
