I host my images on an external site because the image function never worked. And now, there're no images on my secondary site (except for the slideshow), and my primary site looks like a five-year-old got to it.

Apparently I got lulled into a sense of security when the other upgrades worked okay. This was released a month ahead of schedule? Obviously that was way too soon. I'm absolutely furious!

What beautiful sites. Just heavenly. I can't help you with your problems but your sites are lovely. Did you design them yourself or are they templates? if so - which ones?
I see smugmug.com images on your secondary site. Maybe it was an issue with smugmug.com.
they both look fine to me. Is this resolved?

The mirepoixvegas.com site is okay and running on 2.6 with no issues (so far). All the images are kept at smugmug because of WordPress's ongoing image upload problems. This just makes it a lot easier for me, actually, because I'm able to keep my images in different galleries and display them as I want.
My vegaswineaux.com site, on the other hand, is still in the midst of a software malfunction. In spite of uploading new images in the images folder, checking the permissions, and completely replacing the header.php with a fresh copy, my header image and rss images still aren't displaying.
I "upgraded" to 2.6 with both sites, but had to downgrade back to 2.5.1 with vegaswineaux because I could not log in in order to post, and because the image display went crazy. So I'm back to 2.5.1 with that one, but I can't figure out why the images aren't displaying.
They're both the same theme that I customized for my needs. Revolution theme by Brian Gardner. http://www.revolutiontheme.com.
If you compare the basic Magazine theme with mine, you can see that I did a LOT of customizing and can understand why I'm so upset.
Your problem is that your background images are not actually there.
The header image should be here:
http://vegaswineaux.com/wp-content/themes/revolution_magazine-30/images/bg.gif
But that returns a 404. (WordPress shows up as the 404 handler in this case because the image is not there at all, and so you get redirected to WordPress via the .htaccess rules.)

Here's the frustrating part. When I look into my db, they *are* there. With that address. The code is correct (I ran it past the Revolution support forum), and I can *see* the images. So technically, everything is correct. It was correct (and displayed properly) before 2.6, and now, 2.6 has done something to my site. Going back to 2.5.1 didn't fix everything.
I'm afraid to re-"upgrade" because of the sign-in problems that nothing fixed. But I'm pretty much at the end of my rope trying to figure this out.

What do you mean about looking into your "db"? The images should actually be files on your site, not in a "db".
Check that those files have their permissions set correctly. Because regardless of where you see them, your webserver can not see them. This is not a WordPress problem, it's purely a webserver issue with those files. Just because it changed when you upgraded does not mean that the WordPress upgrade caused the change. Maybe it was something you did while upgrading. WordPress cannot change permissions or randomly delete files, you know.

I did an automatic upgrade; in other words, I let WordPress do the upgrade. I was not willing to take any chances in doing it myself - I figued WordPress knew best.
"db" means database. I look and everything is there. As I said, it was there before 2.6 and it's there after 2.6; the only difference is that 2.6 did something to it because it was working just fine before the upgrade.
My permissions are set at 766 across the board for my image folder and files. Honestly, I don't know what they were before 2.6. I didn't have to because everything worked.
Just as New Orleans was a thriving, vibrant city before Katrina, so was my site before 2.6. 2.6 has been my Katrina, and I'm still trying to figure out how to clean up the mess.
The comparison between a web site and city having gone through disaster is pretty poor taste.

Images are stored in "Uploads" folder in "wp-content" folder in WP2.6.
So if you upgraded from earlier versions, just copy the uploads folder from there to this location and you will be fine.

You may think that it's in poor taste, but you understood it, didn't you? That was my goal. What I haven't appreciated is the apparent denial that there are serious problems with 2.6.
I went back to 2.5.1, so the images are where they were originally. And as I said before, my secondary site is problem free, and after going through the files, they are identical in setup. 2.6 did not completely cripple that site the way it did my primary site. The *only* difference between the two is that 2.6 worked on one, but not on the other.
Same theme, same everything. Go figure.

WordPress does not have any sort of ability to do an "automatic upgrade". So if you did something like this, then you used a plugin or somebody else's software to do it. Not WordPress.
Next time, do it manually and follow the directions. Upgrading is easy.

Step 2: Upgrade your installation
Visit your main WordPress admin page at /wp-admin. You may be asked to login again. If a database upgrade is necessary at this point, WordPress will detect it and give you a link to a URL like http://example.com/wordpress/wp-admin/upgrade.php. Follow that link and follow the instructions. This will update your database to be compatible with the latest code. If you fail to do this step, your blog might look funny.
I point this out because I've been scouring the Forums all day to solve a similar problem. I am able to upload images from my computer to my database using ftp, but once uploaded they do not work.
I realize this may be my problem, not Wordpress's, but it only occurred after I did the same "database upgrade." Please help!
