• Okay, this may sound stupid, but I’m wanting to upgrade from WordPress 2.5.1 to 2.6, but the instructions in the ‘Readme’ file are… lacking and I’ve never upgraded before.

    Here’s where I’m snagging:
“Delete your old WP files, saving ones you’ve modified.”

Does that mean delete everything? The way I see it:
    1. Backup everything.
    2. Delete the entire installation (minus the database)
    3. Re-upload the 2.6 files.
    4. Run the ‘upgrade.php’ file.
    5. Re-upload themes, add-ons

    Is that correct?

  • 2. Delete all files except wp-config and the wp-content folder.

    5. Not if you maintain the wp-content folder, as it contains all of your plugins and themes.

Oh, and also, another addition for step 2 –

    deactivate all plugins.

While I have completed an upgrade in the past without doing this, I still would recommend taking this extra step.
