    I did read your above post, and it would not appear to have any bearing on my particular problem. "/wp-login.php?redirect_to..." is the same as just "/wp-login.php", everything after the "?" is a paramter for the URI and does not affect the loading of the actual page.

    And I have tried going to the wp-login.php directly. I get the login screen, I enter my login info and it goes back to a blank wp-login.php page. Feel free to sign up and try to get to your personal profile page: www.thedailybizarre.com/wp-login.php

    @fgueho - the workaround suggested earlier in this thread worked for me with the same problem you had with being redirected.

    I get the blank page instead of Login now on more sites than when I originally upgraded. I was getting scattered blank pages previously in the admin sections after any executions like writing, editing, deactivating or activating plugins. The clear cookies thing did get me into all of the admin directly after upgrading. But this morning I can get into none. I have on two of the sites even done the delete everything, back up, re-download a fresh install of wordpress and reinstall but to no avail. *yes I simply went without any plugins for the two I tried the reinstall on so that doesn't help any*

    Giving up for the moment, may try later otherwise I guess it's going to be go back and downgrade all the sites of mine and the two others on the server. I do have to say it has been disheartening not only the troubles with this upgrade, which are nothing like anything I have encountered in a wordpress upgrade in the last many years, but also the backbiting in just about all the posts related to this issue. *wonders when it became and us against them sort thing? instead of wordpress folks trying to figure it out together?*

    Just updated to FireFox 3.0.1 and then deleted cookies and I don't have any trouble any more. I don't quite know why it now works on IE7 also though. Weird coincidence?

    running firefox 2.0.0.1.......hold the shift key while browsing to http://sitename/wp-admin/ and it lets me into the dashboard. All of my posts are 404's from the front page though.

    Okay .... I know some people are having issues with this. I did the upgrade this afternoon, with the automatic upgrade plugin. Everything seemed to go well, then all of a sudden, all i got was the login screen telling me to enter my password. On the main blog screen it would show that I was logged.

    All my files and everything look fine etc. In one of the post earlier in this thread someone said to re do the Secret key. I clicked on this like http://api.wordpress.org/secret-key/1.1/
    and it gave me and secret key (which is modified below)
    define('AUTH_KEY', secret key here);
    define('SECURE_AUTH_KEY', 'secret key here');
    define('LOGGED_IN_KEY', secret key here');

    .... I went to the wp-config.php file, found the entry, pasted. saved. And was able to login ...

    Seemed pretty simple to me :)

    Thanks to Otto 42 ...here

    I also have the same problem:

    • Upgrade process (from 2.5.1 to 2.6): as per normal disabled plugins, updated wp-config and index.php files, ran upgrade.php fine but can now no longer login, get redirected from wp-admin to wp-login.php, which displays a 404 page
    • deleted cookies and attempted from multiple browsers
    • deleted and uploaded files multiple times, re-uploaded wp-admin and wp-includes folders multiple times
    • checked permissions on wp-admin
    • my blog is in the following format: http://myblog/blog/

    I should mention I have also tried every solution so far offered in this post, but to no avail (changing secret key, changing password in phpMyAdmin, adding cookie redirect line to wp-config.php).

    I've also been having some login issues after the upgrade. I have been able to post even after the upgrade but today I'm not longer able to access my blog.
    Now the problem has gotten worse.

    When I go to my blog I'm directed to the install wordpress page.
    http://MyDomainName/blog/wp-admin/install.php

    My webhosting is done via ATT and Yahoo.

    fghedo:

    I've had these kind of redirect problems before with 2.5. It happened when editing pages or posts.
    It was a mod.security setting issue specific to some servers. It was solved by editing the admin folder's ".htaccess" and adding this setting:

    <IfModule mod_security.c>
    SecFilterInheritance Off
    </IfModule>

    Now in WP 2.6 the redirect problem happened again, this time with /wp-admin/ and login.php.

    I tested in several browsers both in Windows and Linux, tried to clean cache, tried to replace the permalink structure on .htaccess... nothing worked.

    Then I tried the code above on the blog folder's ".htaccess" and it worked. The wp-admin path is now redirecting right to login.php.

    But I don't know if it is a good solution neither how much security I lost.

    I am having this problem with three of my sites, I was having this problem before I upgraded to 2.6. I upgraded thinking it would fix the problem but it has not.

    All of my other sites are fine.
    Also these three sites are loading perfectly it is just that I cannot access admin.

    I have a similar complaint. All was well until I upgraded from 2.5.1 to 2.6. After the upgrade, I could access the site fine, but not the wp-admin pages. Using Firefox 3 or Opera made no difference. Nor did clearing cookies, authenticated sessions, resetting the admin password, etc. I have read all kinds of supposed solutions to the problem, but none worked for me. In the end, I reverted back to 2.5, and could then access the admin functions again.

    Sorry, I am NOT impressed. All my other WP upgrades have been seamless. What gives with this one?

    I used the automatic upgrade plugin also, and now whenever i try and access my wp-admin area i get my website home page with the phrase "sorry no posts matched that criteria"... my actual site (www.miss-brightside.com) works fine but I am about to load a new layout and add some more posts - and now I'm not able to!
    Any idea what I've done wrong?

    I have carried out a clean install of 2.6 on one of my sites today, everything is working fine on that particular site now. In fact it works better than any of my other sites ever worked using 2.5.1.

    So I am going to do the same thing tomorrow on the other two sites, this would seem to be the only solution for now.

    I love this 2.6 version it is way much better than any previous version.
    Loads quicker, templates don't break, plug ins all work without giving me any headaches.

    Keep up the great work developers. Oh and also a great big thank you to all of the expert developers of all the fantastic plug ins and themes.

    Luv ya all. Holly.

    If you are stuck in the "Please Log in again" loop and unable to access the admin area, try visiting this address, (with your blog URL replacing example.com):

    http://example.com/wp-login.php?action=logout

    On sites with lots of registered users, I have added this instruction to wp-login.php and it seems to be solving the problem.

    I dont know if anyone has sorted this problem yet, but I have found a way into the admin area, well it works for me.. I used this and got in no problem.
    http://yoursite.com/wp-admin/comment.php?action=mac&c=1

    Maybe not a perfect solution but if it works then thats what counts.

    I tried that, but still get the error: You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.

    Hmm...

    Read through the entire thread (quite an experience at times), tried every reasonable suggestion, and still cannot log in.

    Also tried logging in with different account. Won't let me in. Instead, the login screen reverts back to name I tried to login with before.

    Tried this in IE, FF, and Opera.

    Follow-up to my own message...

    I just noticed this. When I attempt to log into the admin panel, the site itself says I am logged in (that is, the "edit this" link shows up on the posts). However, I am unable to get into the admin panel.

    I was continuously being asked to re-login when trying to go to /wp-admin, but I found that my particular problem was caused by some rewrite rules which I had added to .htaccess to allow users to continue to use /wp-admin instead of /wp-factory/wp-admin. (I had just moved WordPress' factory files to their own directory to facilitate easier upgrading.)

    I fixed my configuration fault by making the redirect from /wp-admin/ to /wp-factory/wp-admin/ an external 301 redirect. Should have done that in the first place, because it's more semantically correct, but I had made a mess of some other parts of my rewrite rules which made this impossible.

    A "me too" comment here - - out of utter frustration. I believe

    I have tried every solution/tip/suggestion and nothing has worked. Even with a new installation. Just getting to the login page (or what is supposed to be the homepage) takes many minutes and then ends in failure.

    I hope there is a fix soon.

    Update - - I just got a message from my host saying that he "had to restart the entire server to break some weird wordpress cached dns entries"

    I can access my site again!! so far it seems like it is all there and working.....getting ready to add the plugins back.

    I can access my admin panel, but when I try do anything it returns to the login screen. The meta info on my blog shows that I am still logged in.

    It is creating 2 cookies with the same name one with the path "/" and the other with "/wp-content/plugins"

    Sure I can delete them and get back to the admin panel, but once there it creates both cookies again and I can't edit anything. So it goes right back to the login screen.

    I have also noticed all actions within my admin panel are very slow. It is neither my server nor connection because the blog loads quickly.

    now it is showing a third with the same name with the path "/wp-admin"

    I have tried everything on this list including reinstalling WP... No dice.
    It is still issuing multiple cookies with the same name. The front end loads fine for readers.

    It is only when I try to login that things start going haywire. It seems to be redirecting me to the login screen less often, but it works incredibly slow. I am guessing that is because of the cookies.

    Is there a fix for this issue in the works?

    OK last one.

    I tried turning off the plugins again and it worked. After turning them back on one by one I isolated the problem plugin. It was the Wordpress Automatic Upgrade.
