cant get to my admin area even though Im logged in?

Im logged in. if I click on dashboard, I’m sent to:

http://mysite.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2F

I have not updated it lately, but I think it does this automatically. seems to me something went wrong? how can I fix?
