I’m not doing anything fancy here. I’ve just selected a custom sidebar on a single page with the default template.

The default template (page.php) uses get_sidebar() to load the sidebar. When I select a custom sidebar for a page with the metabox and publish, the default sidebar still loads.

The only way I’ve been able to get the custom sidebars to load is by explicitly adding them to my templates with dynamic_sidebar(‘my_sidebar_id’).

Am I missing something simple here?

  • Hi @gpspake,

Greetings and thanks for posting on the forums.

Make sure you have selected Replaceable Sidebars for substitution from the following path.

Admin area -> Appearance -> Custom Sidebars -> Custom Sidebars tab -> Replaceable Sidebars

I think all’s well. I’m not sure what happened but I think it may have been related to the fact that I used to have Genesis and the Genesis Simple Sidebars plugin installed and there may have been some sort of conflict with the sidebar names in the DB or something. I tried deleting the sidebar and re-adding it and now it seems to be working.

    Hi,
I am having similar issues…the custom sidebar does not show on my page of choice. I do make the selection in appearance…and, i select the correct sidebar when editing the page itself.

    Any ideas?

working with omega theme, site is catrinachoate.com and the page of choice for a custom sidebar is the About page.

Any help would appreciated; been at this for a few days already with no success.

    Hi @catrinach,

Greetings and thanks for posting, sorry for the delay here though. When topics are marked as ‘resolved’ we’ll sometimes miss followups.

Could I ask for you to create a new topic though?

That way we’ll be able to delve into the specifics with your particular theme as this one was regarding Genesis theme.

Looking forward to getting that sorted with ya! 🙂

    Thanks,
    David
