I’ve installed UpdraftPlus 1.9.0 on a WordPress site that I manage for my church. I have configured the plugin to upload to Google Drive, and the upload process seems to work fine.

However, my first test backup resulted in a lengthy series of zip errors. I’ve posted a short excerpt below; the full error log is posted to pastebin.com (part 1, part 2).

0023.538 (0) Adding batch to zip file (UpdraftPlus_BinZip): over 75 Mb added on this batch (79.5 Mb, 1560 files batched, 145 (739) added so far); re-opening (prior size: 180245.4 Kb)
0023.953 (0) Binary zip: error (code: 10 - look it up in the Diagnostics section at http://www.info-zip.org/mans/zip.html for interpretation... and also check that your hosting account quota is not full)
0023.955 (0) [Warning] A zip error occurred - check your log for more details.
0023.955 (0) The attempt to close the zip file returned an error (zip error: Temporary file failure (was copying uploads/2012/10/091612235005.jpg)). List of files we were trying to add follows (check their permissions).
    0023.956 (0) File: uploads/2012/07/Jean-and-Dianna-being-installed-as-new-practitioners-072220122-400x300.jpeg (exists: 1, is_readable: 1 size: 49418)
    0023.956 (0) File: uploads/2012/07/Rev2-400x300.jpg (exists: 1, is_readable: 1 size: 36255)
    0023.957 (0) File: uploads/2012/07/Rev-Barley-Dee-and-Gloria-300x225.jpg (exists: 1, is_readable: 1 size: 23039)

This appears to have affected only the creation of the uploads zip file; I cannot find any errors listed for the other zip files.

I found an earlier post in this forum that discusses a similar error. However, I’d appreciate any help specific to this situation.

    Thanks…

    Hi,

Looking at that, I’d say that most likely your disk space for the web hosting account becomes full whilst creating that zip.

Okay. The hosting company has been pretty relaxed about requests for additional space. I can ask for more.

Does the log give any indication of how much additional space would be required?

    Thanks…

    Hi,

That can’t be known in advance, but see this FAQ: http://updraftplus.com/faqs/how-much-free-disk-space-do-i-need-to-create-a-backup/

The site currently occupies a bit over 500 MB (heavy on photos). I’ll request another 1.5 GB and see what happens on the next backup.

    Thanks…

I believe this can be marked ‘resolved’. The hosting company graciously upped my quota to 2 GB. A second manual backup has completed, and there are no warnings whatsoever in the log.

I still plan to test the backup by attempting to restore the site to a server on Amazon EC2. For now, I am satisfied that the backup completed successfully.

Thanks for the sage counsel, David.
