Reposting this issue in a new thread per moderator request with additional detail.

After initiating a manual upgrade to v3.9 on one of my sites, when I navigate to /wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft (which is normally how I get to my blog) and wait a second or two, my entire dashboard disappears. The entire left column goes solid black when this happens. The end site itself (what a visitor sees) appears unaffected and normal.

The dashboard seems to disappear only when I click on Posts in the dashboard. If I click any link other than one of the Posts links before the dashboard disappears, the dashboard stays where it should. For example, I can click on Media or Links or Comments and the dashboard stays visible. If I then click on Posts, it disappears after a second or two.

    Very odd behavior.

    check your error_log

    is there any error?

also disable all your plugins and see if problem same?

I updated all my blog and no error so far.

I’m investigating further. I have only three active plugins. Disabling WordPress Backup to Dropbox v1.8.1 stopped the dashboard from disappearing.

I didn’t see anything about this on the support site for that plugin and have sent a support request to the author. I’ll update when I learn more.

By the way, Ractors, the most recent entry in my error_log file was from just over two months ago. So nothing recent there. Thanks.

I’ve not yet heard back from the author of the WordPress Backup to Dropbox plugin.

A new version of WordPress Backup to Dropbox was released yesterday. I could not find release notes on it, but it appears to have corrected the incompatibility with WordPress v3.9.
