So there are two plugins, the Cloud one lags behind one version (1.8.4 vs 1.8.5), and they seem to have exactly the same feature. The core version also has the Cloud API key box and such.

So is the Cloud version completely unnecessary since all functionality exists in the Core version? Just trying to understand why they are two different plugins.

Core has everything, the Cloud version is for users who exclusively use the cloud functions, and do not perform any local optimizations. In particular, it was released at the request of WPEngine who wanted a version of the plugin with no exec() calls in the code (even though they don’t do anything when all the cloud options are activated in Core.

At any rate, the Cloud version is not supposed to be behind a version, I must have missed something when I released the last one. Thanks for bringing that up.

Forgot to update the ‘stable’ tag in the readme… 1.8.5 of Cloud is out the door.

Also should mention that Cloud has all the same features as Core, except that it CANNOT run any optimizations locally. And within the next few months, it will get something that Core will probably never have: JPEGmini support.
