   Using Quadruple Blue theme, 0 widgets, 0 plugins activated, newly upgraded to 2.5.1, and my smart quotes have all become broken. Apart from going in and editing each and every one of the posts, how can I remedy this?

   The double quote ["] in "baby" renders as “baby”, and the single apostrophe ['] in year's renders as year’s.

   And not only smart quotes, but also the em dash now renders as —.

   This does not seem to happen in every instance, moreover, but sporadically throughout the posts.

   its encoding problem surely, do you used MS words (then copy paste it) or write the articles directly?
