• Well – the search results are better though and the “heatmap” for search results is a nice add on.

But so far this plugin seems not to support multisite installations – so it’s completely useless for me.

Arno, Thanks for the review. Multisite has been a long pending issue which I plan on implementing. Some users have used this plugin on multi-site installs by activating it individually on each installation.

I guess Arno is looking for a search feature that is able to search on all child sites from his network. Because of the “terrible” database design used by WP in multi site mode, it’s pretty hard to create a stable and good search function.

Olaf, am no expert on database design, but each site has a separate table which makes it difficult to search across the various sites.
If I do figure this out, it would be a solution only in a premium version of the plugin.

Ajay, that is what I meant with terrible database design 🙂
I think the only way would be one table that has an index from all the different child blogs. If the network becomes bigger you will get a lot of data 🙁

@olaf: No – WordPress has no “terrible” database design for multisite and I also don’t needed a global search for all sites.

I use a multisite setup for multiple languages – the primary site in German, the second site in English. I could only use the plugin to provide a search for the primary German version but not for the English one.

Each site has it’s own database and the structures and the API to access those content are well documented.

The problem I had with the plugin is – it does not even notice, that it runs in a multisite setup and does not use the database for the current site, just for the primary site.

    Hi Arno,

(this becomes very off-optic, sorry Ajay)

If you use the multi site feature for different language versions a “global” search isn’t very useful. But I’m sure about many users looking for some global (search) features. Imagine how your database looks like if you have 100 or more child sites 🙂

@arno, the plugin doesn’t have a network activate feature right now. But, you could activate it individually on your individual sites currently. I’m working on a version that should network activate as well.

@olaf, I agree on the global search. But, as mentioned, it’s not as easy as it sounds, since Better Search needs the index to search through, but it isn’t going to be an easy solution.
