    [installed: UpdraftPlus 1.9.0]

I have created a new Google Drive account and authenticated UpdraftPlus to use it. I have executed two manual backups. In each case, the log reports

The backup apparently succeeded and is now complete

…but no files appear in the Google Drive account.

Should I expect a delay in the appearance of these files after a report of a successful upload, or are the files rendered somehow invisible to the Google Drive web interface?

    Thanks…

    Hi meatbrain,

Try downloading them from Google Drive from the UD settings page. If that works, then they must be there!

Also, read the log file to make sure you really saved them to Google Drive (sometimes people start a backup before they’ve saved their settings).

    Best wishes,
    David

    David…

The log definitely indicates that the files were uploaded to Google Drive. For instance:

There truly does not appear to be anything stored on Google Drive. What’s the next step in troubleshooting?

    Thanks…

    Hi meatbrain,

The next release of UD will have a completely new Google Drive backend. So, rather than play around with the existing one (which has no known problems, but since it’s about to be gone…), please update to the development version and try a fresh backup with that:

I found the problem. It wasn’t UpdraftPlus — it was human error.

I do all my web work in Google Chrome. I usually have tabs open showing my personal Gmail account. As you know, Gmail and Google Drive both authenticate with the same Google credentials.

I had opened a Chrome incognito window so that I could create a new Google Drive account for storing backups. That went fine. However, when I first authenticated UpdraftPlus to Google Drive, I did it in the original Chrome window — and that instance of Chrome was already authenticated to my personal Google Drive account! I completely missed the fact that I was configuring UpdraftPlus to store data in my Google Drive account, not the new account I’d just created.

When I realized what must have happened, I checked my own Google Drive account. Sure enough, I found the missing backup files. I opened WordPress in another incognito window and re-authenticated UpdraftPlus to Google Drive, being certain to use the credentials of the new Drive account. I then ran another manual backup from UpdraftPlus. All the backup files were uploaded to the new Drive account, as expected.

Thanks for your help, David. I had already installed the development version of UpdraftPlus before I tumbled onto the solution. Should I remove it and re-install 1.9.0? Will the development version cause any issues with updating the plugin, if I leave it installed?

    Hi JGB,

Great – glad you got it. It was partly to help with this issue that the development version displays the name associated with the account you’re authenticated with. Though, if both accounts have the same person’s name, then that doesn’t help so much!

Assuming that you’re just using the free version, continuing to use the development version won’t cause any problems with updating.

    Best wishes,
    David

    David…

Where does the dev version display the name of the authenticated Google Drive account? I cannot find it on the plugin control panel.

    Thanks…

    Hi,

You probably need to re-authenticate – IIRC, it grabs the name when you authenticate.

Ah, I found it — in the paragraph to the right of the heading ‘Authenticate with Google’.

It’s kind of buried in the text. Would you please consider breaking the account holder’s name out into a separate paragraph, and perhaps rendering it in boldface?

    Thanks…

I’ve (just now) split that into two paragraphs in our bleeding edge version, so it’ll be in the next release.

Don’t let me give you the idea that we always make tweaks on-demand! Have you seen our shop? http://updraftplus.com/shop 😉

Thanks, David. Knowing that you’re there and responsive to suggestions gives me great confidence in using and recommending this plugin.

I have seen the shop, and will recommend to the site owner that we invest in the Premium upgrade. I also plan to install this backup on a church website that a manage, and will make the same recommendation to the church.

I’ll be posting a positive review of UpdraftPlus later today.

    Hi,

    Thank you!

    David

In short : Where/how can I acees the bakcup files uploaded on the Google cloud storage ?

Hi, I had a problem with Google Drive :
I have created a new Google Drive account and although I’ve clicked several times “Authentificate” link in my WP Updraft interface, the link was showing up again, and for each backup, I had the message “Google Drive: this account is not authorised.” This was resolved yesterday God knows why by clicking again on the link and when I saved manualy the database afterwards, I had no error message.(Checked the log, seems ok) But I wanted to make sure they were uploaded on Google cloud and see where/how they are stored. But… I couldn’t find the files within the Google interface.

In the Google Developers Console, I wen to the link to Cloud Storage > Storage browser
    https://console.developers.google.com/project/xxx(projectID)/storage
But this page only asks to add a bucket. Do I have to creat a bucket ???

    I read this doc :
    https://cloud.google.com/storage/docs/access-public-data
but it also mentions a bucket.
I wonder what is the relationship between the folder name suggested by ultradraft and a bucket.
In my Updraft settings, I left the default folder name “UpdraftPlus”.
Could you kindly tell me what to do ?
    Thank you.

FYI: I’m using WP3.9 with UpdraftPlus 1.9.25. I have several things to check before updating, but I don’t think this is relevant, it seems I just can’t find out how to access files on Google console.
    I’m not using Chrome.
