A way to add in-post quick notes (2 posts)

I wanted something that would allow someone to hover over a word in a post, and it would pop open a simple little window with the definition of the word or a quick explanation. Is there something like that as a plug-in or is that simple coding?

IMM-Glossary Wordpress Plugin would probably have fit the bill to an extent, except that it is currently only 'officially' compatible with 2.1. Not sure about any WP versions after that though, especially 2.5.

A quick review which probably does a better job of summarising what this plugin does.

Alternatively, this Lexicon plugin looks quite promising, especially the most recent comment on the page which mentions 2.5. But again, it's not fully compatible.

Another plugin to consider might be WP-Definitions which adds the definition of a word (from a database - if you double-bracket) at the bottom of the post. Should note that this is probably not compatible with WP2.5, and the actual website was highlighted by Google to be potentially harmful.
