OK so I’m new to WordPress and I’m almost too embarrassed to ask this question….

On a Mac how do I change file permission of wp-config.php file to 640. All the examples I can find online refer to PC/Windows users which clearly has a box for a numeric value. I can’t see that on a Mac.
So the way I’m trying to do it is to select the file and cmd + I to bring up the file permissions etc.

Thanks in anticipation of your replies

You need to set the file permission of the file when it is on your server, not when you edit it on your local computer. I’m assuming you are not running your Mac as an Internet server. You can set permissions on the server through your hosting control panel or with an FTP client app.

Thanks for your reply bcworkz. I managed to locate the file and Change Permissions via my cPanel. Unfortunately it wouldn’t let me change the numbers – I can select them but when I type nothing happens. Therefore I will take this issue with my host provider.
    Cheers
