Root cause found! There is a conflict with TML Plugin.

On the TML settings page “Theme My Login Themed Profiles Settings” > under “Restrict Admin Access” I unchecked the ‘Author’ and now the Author is able to upload media without any problems. However, with that change the Author (or any role deselected ) will have access to wp-admin / backend!! I request the Plugin author to propose a work around if there is any. Thanks!

Frontier Post is one amazing plugin! Hats-off for ALL the effort building & maintaining it for free! I shall make my donation.

I am pretty sure the problem is in Theme My Login. If you select disable admin access, the user will not be able to upload images, as this also disables ajax – There is unfortunately nothing I can do about this – Uploading of images is a “backend feature”.

I had exactly the same issue (and it drove me nuts), this is why I added the option to disable the admin bar in Frontier Post.
