How do I remove [ xx more words. ]
-
It’s really annoying. I just want it to not show up in Facebook posts. An option would be nice. Or just tell me what file I need to open to delete it completely. Thanks!

When you create posts do you use the
<!-- more -->
feature? On your Settings > Reading page for “For each article in a feed, show” do you have Full Text or Summary?
They are most likely causes of that appearing.
If not a link to your site would be handy to help troubleshoot this for you.
I do not use the -more- feature.
The Reading settings is set to show Summary. This has only started happening in the past few months. Previously it added in a ‘Continue Reading’ tag that I couldn’t get rid of.
I am certain this is a JetPack thing, but if it’s a WordPress thing I’d love to know how to get rid of it.
Hi saladgoat,
This is on the WordPress.com end, when we send posts to Facebook. It cannot be changed by you. However, have you tried using a custom excerpt for your posts? If you use a short exceprt, that may prevent the [x more words] from appearing.

Note that we are always looking at ways of improving how we Publicize things to Facebook, so this may change in the future.
I always use Excerpts, that’s what’s so annoying about it. It prints my nicely crafted Excerpt, then follows it with how many more words, which is misleading and annoying.
Thanks for your response. I guess I have to complain to WordPress….Thanks for your response. I guess I have to complain to WordPress….
Well, no, it’s on our end ( WordPress.com is behind the Jetpack plugin). Can you point me to a Facebook post that shows this (the use of an excerpt AND the x more words)?
Sure. Happened just today. First post on this page:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lee-Aaron-Fanpage/270213811866Hi,
I created an enhancement request for you here:
https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/508
You can follow it to see the developer’s response. Thanks!
Thank you! π
Hi! Upon further testing, I wasn’t able to reproduce this, neither to a profile nor a Facebook page. I wrote a post with a short custom excerpt and the [xx more words] notice did not appear. How long are your excerpts?
Did it get fixed in the interim? I can’t even understand why it wouldn’t affect you. Different versions of Facebook? (I seem to have the newer version, introduced a few weeks ago.)
The excerpts are quite short – my goal is to keep them to one line, so less than ten words.
I have a new post scheduled for midnight tonight … we’ll see what happens….Aaaannnddd … it’s not there!
Let’s hope that’s the end of it. πGreat! I’ve closed the Github issue, but do let me know if it acts up again.
Aaannd it’s back. π
It only appears sometimes? On a whim? No wonder you can’t reproduce it – it only happens when it feels like it….Let me try again. Can you point me to the exact post, and share what you posted as the Excerpt and the Post Content? I can copy the content from your post, but I’d need your custom excerpt.
