    Hi,
I have been using wordpress for over a year now, but it was only today that I installed it on my laptop using XAMPP, but my original blog is not showing in my dashboard. Please help! how do I get my original blog dashboard in the installed version?

What do you mean by original blog? A live site that you are trying to duplicate on XAMPP?

yes, I mean a live site (my blog)!

An easy way to do this is to use this plugin.

You install it on your blog. Create a ‘package’ which includes the database and files. Get XAMPP working. Create an EMPTY database and DO NOT install WordPress. Instead, copy the two files the plugin created for you to the folder inside /xampp/htdocs/ where you want to access your website. Then fire up your browser and access 127.0.0.1/my-website/installer.php – or whatever the address is of your XAMPP config.

After installing, it will help you update your URL’s to your localhost.

I’m not sure of your WP experience, but this is definitely an intermediate level task and could become frustrating so be patient and have fun 🙂

    Hope that helps 🙂

the main reason why i wanted to install wordpress using XAMPP was because I cant find the plugin option in my dashboard. how to go about it now?
I read somewhere it may be due to the theme, I am using the FONTFOLIO theme.
Even when I change the theme I cant see the plugin option in my dashboard.

    Are you using WordPress.com?

    yes I am!

Well, that explains it. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different products. WordPress.com users do not have access to plugins 🙁

    WordPress.com support is here http://en.support.wordpress.com/

WordPress.org, which is supported here in these forums requires your own web hosting http://wordpress.org/about/

I had no clue these are two different entities(embarrassed)! Is there a way that I can transfer my blog from wordpress.com to wordpress.org as I would like to use the plugins.
