• Hi. I actually don’t have wordpress installed yet. I want to make sure that it will fit my need. I have searched this site for a few days now and was unable to find a clear cut answer.

I am designing a web site for a customer. He would like the ability to periodically upload and delete pictures and text. He will be using this site to display products that he has for sale. When he sales them, he wants to be able to take the picture and text off, and when he gets new products, he wants to be able to upload them to the site. Is wordpress the best choice for this? I know that it’s capable, but it seems to be geared mostly for blogs, and this guy doesn’t want a blog.

Thanks in advance for your feedback. I realize that I wouldn’t even be classified as an absolute beginner here.

  • Hi,

I hope this answers your question but I believe that WordPress will work very well for your situation.

WordPress has pages as well as posts. You can design the template to use pages and not use the posts at all. When you are in the CP, simply go to Settings/Reading and under “Front page displays” select “A static page (select below)” and choose your “Front page”. This FAQ may help you: http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/02/20/having-a-static-page-at-the-front-of-the-blog. This will make your home page a static WordPress page, and a blog page.

Your client can then log into the CP and go to Manage>Pages and then click on the page name. There, they can edit the text and the images for the page. This should be a really easy solution.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks so much for your response. That’s great that it will work well for my situation. Right now, I am just using the version of WordPress that is on Yahoo Small Business Web Hosting. The band that I’m in has a website, and WordPress is one of the free tools that it offers for web development. So, I fear that this version is different than the one that everyone else probably uses.

I tried to find Settings/Reading, but I only found Options/Reading. I figured that it would be the same. Within the Reading Options, there are only a few options, and none of them say anything about front page displays. I am willing to download WordPress, but my PC is not a server. Although I can make it one with Apache Tomcat, I am clueless when it comes to that, also.

What about the Theme Editor? Does it make only the CSS editable?
