    Hello
have installed for first time (looks great package)
have got it going and chosen a theme
am tweeking in 'admin settings' where this line of options are showing across the page:

General - Writing - Reading - Discussion - Privacy - Permalinks - Miscellaneous - UBD Block Ad Plugin

have succesfully altered all but two... Reading and UBD Block Ad

Prob: is that these last two allow alterations to be typed in but when the 'save' button is clicked... this page comment appears:

    Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /blogs/wp-admin/options.php on this server.
    ----------------------------------------------------------
    Apache/1.3.27 Server at mywebsite.com Port 80

Strange thing is: this appears every now and again with some of the other 'saves' from the other options.... but if i select a freah option and then return for second attempt it usually just works fine.... however, the two mentioned keep on faultering

Any thoughts as to what may be causing this and a ressolve?

    thanks
    stephenn

I have the same problem, like you I am the admin.
I have just installed Wordpress 2.7.1. using the 5-minute install. All was completed perfectly. Then I tried to change the settings in options-general.php but when trying to save them all I get is an error message "Forbidden: You do not have permission to access this document."
I don't know anything about phpMyAdmin although I can access it (v. 2.8.2.4) from my host's Plesk control panel, but I can't see anything about adjusting permissions.
Am completely stumped. Is it something to do with CHMOD file permissions? If so, I couldn't see anything about this in the setup instructions.

Permissions is something which is adjusted on the file or directory, not through phpmyadmin. It seems the /blogs/wp-admin/options.php file needs to have its permissions altered. Try chmoding it to 644 or 755. If that doesn't work, put it to 777.

Also, mod_security has been known to cause this. Ask your host about it.

I too have this problem. I changed the permissions of the options file all the way up to 777 and then tried all the files prefixed with "options-" set at 777 and I still couldn't change settings. If someone knows where wp can be manually edited (in this case the tagline) it'd be much appreciated if you'd share! I'll keep looking!

This is likely not a problem with permissions at all, but a problem with the path. Check your Settings > Miscellaneous and make sure that your upload path does not begin with a slash /
    Bad example: /wp-content/uploads
    Good example: wp-content/uploads

It wasn't a problem with my path, but thanks bh. I found the solution here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/185417?replies=23 It was mod_security playing games with me.
