Hi – I’m going to be moving a wordpress.com site and need some guideance before I start. πŸ™‚

I have my own domain name at register.com, and I’ll set up hosting. My domain name is being forwarded to my wordpress.com url right now, so when you visit my domain name, my wordpress.com blog shows up.

I know I can use Jetpack to import my blog – will it also import my followers/readers/likes/state/etc.?

When I’m developing my new self-hosted site, can I develop it on my domain since that’s being pointed to my wordpress.com blog, or do I need to develop it on a subdomain, and then move the whole thing to the main domain when ready to launch?

When I do launch the new self-hosted site, will removing my domain’s forwarding to my wordpress.com blog be enough to retain search engine rankings and links in my blog, or in addition to that, will I need to purchase wordpress.com’s Site Redirect utility, too?

Thank you – I want to try and have all my ducks in a row before I start this.
