• When updated, there is a banner:

Search everything has been updated with security fixes!

Search Everything has been upgraded with security updates and some exciting new features. Visit settings to learn more.

It has a “Dismiss” link. Rather than dismissing the the banner, it follows through to the settings page. It should instead make the banner disappear, without visiting the settings page.

I know this sounds nit-picky, but it is important to fulfill user expecations in the UI, and normally a dismiss link closes the banner. An alternative is to remove the Dismiss link, and explain in the text that to remove the banner, visit the settings page (with link). Or, just show it on one screen and then let it go.

  • Hey maiki,

thanks for your feedback, we truly appreciate it!

We are aware of this, but we are eager (too much I guess) on informing our users on changes we make (like you said – it is important to fulfill user expectations). We are sorry to hear that this caused you any inconvenience, and like I already said, we do appreciate your feedback and we sure will discuss it in our next meeting, I can promise you that much.

Take care & have a nice weekend,

    Petra

    Hey,

with the latest release we changed/fixed the “Dismiss” issue, I hope this is fulfilling the user expectations you mentioned and I will marked this topic as resolved.

It wasn’t fixed, it just changed the link to show what it is doing. I maintain over 50 sites, most of which use the plugin. It is frustrating to have to update and then click through to remove the message.

You’ve indicated you aren’t going to change this, but my issue is not resolved.

    Hey maiki,

thanks for getting back to me and I am really sorry for the mix-up.
    When you said:

explain in the text that to remove the banner, visit the settings page (with link)

I thought you would be pleased that now the link (“Dismiss and go to settings”) does what it is suppose to – it dismisses the banner and takes you to the settings. I apologize for misunderstanding and of course the issue is not resolved.

Again — sorry for the inconvenience and frustration!
