I uploaded an MP4 and the visible part of the video isn’t displaying, only the audio is playing.

I re-encoded the video using handbrake batch, selecting web-optimized so the meta information is at the beginning, and then uploaded it via FTP and overwrote the old file and now the visible portion works.

    1. does the plugin re-encode MP4s?
    2. does the plugin re-encode with the meta information at the beginning for web-streaming?
    3. what else could be the problem, aside from a poor encoding on the initial file?

Hello?! Like c’mon, if you’re going to create a plugin and post it on the WordPress.org repo, at least have the decency to support it in a timely manner.

    Dear Mkormendy,

I apologies for the lack of response on our part. This is a free plugin therefore we cannot provide support as often as we would like to.

    Regarding your questions on encoding:
    1. yes, the plugin will re-encode to mp4 in case an mp4 was uploaded and the server has ffmpeg installed and detected by the plugin as installed.
    2. we use MP4 Box to place the meta information at the beginning of the stream in the event MP4 Box is installed and detected on the server.
    3. Based on my experience with ffmpeg is the video is not playing but there is sound changes are high that either some of the flags or presents specified in the encoding are failing on this particular ffmpeg configuration or ffmpeg is compiled with some other video library as opposed to the one specified in the encoding (libx264 or something else).

If you have any further question, please email me directly instead as I’m not getting notifications on any posts in Support section being a contributor to the plugin: alex @ alexiz.com.

    Best regards,
    Alex
