I installed the WordPress theme WP Countdown. but I don’t get a countdown timer. and I don’t6 se any plugins added.

Did you select a static page to be the countdown page??

Static page is selected. There is no option to choose a countdown timer. There is nothing on the site like a plugin or widget that say countdown or timer or anything similar.

Would be nice if there some documentation so I can read up on it before posting to the group.

You need to configure a static page for the landing page and timer to work. Please check out this article: http://wpchimp.com/b/wpchimp-countdown-theme/.
