• I hear there’s a taxonomy type thing in WP2.5.

I want to have basically a second set of categories, so I can have different industries listed, and clients listed as subcategories of the industries, without interfering or being a part of the regular category list. Can I do this somehow?

I could also do this with tags if you could somehow group tags together?

    Any help would be great.

anyone? do people answer these types of questions or is there somewhere else I need to go? Help me out people, I’ve heard good things about the users of wordpress helping each other, where’s that at?

Explain the problem exactly – you say you want a second set of categories, second to what?

WordPress has categories and allows you to have sub categories, how you use them or how they appear on the pages is dependent upon the templates.

I don’t understand what you’re asking for either.. be more descriptive and give examples please.

I think I can explain more clearly as I am after the same thing…

In drupal you can create any number of taxonomies that can be hierarchical, flat etc. I.e. you can create multiple category trees or multiple tag fields and then add the post in to some or all of the various taxonomies.

This is really useful where you may want user-tagging of posts in one, and editorial tagging of posts in another.

I should have added that there is a function register_taxonomy() available but I can not get it to work….

update – use register_taxonomy in your functions.php of your template and then you can use all of the regular taxonomy functions in wordpress to associate posts with your custom taxonomy.
